We are aiming highly efficient energy sources using smart fluids and fluid engineering in order to realize carbon neutrality. We are conducting experimental studies and large-scale numerical simulations to realize magnetic confinement fusion, basic research on the development of low-carbon energy sources utilizing plasma, and measurement and numerical analysis research to elucidate the mechanisms of gas-liquid two-phase flows such as turbulent flow fields in pipes, liquid jets, and fuel sprays. We are also developing new visualization and measurement methods for fluids and utilizing them to elucidate turbulence mechanisms and reduction of loss mechanism.
More than 30 students in total are conducting research. Nearly half of our students are international students from overseas such as China, Indonesia, India, Thailand, and Vietnam, making our laboratory very international. There are many situations where English is spoken. The plasma/nuclear fusion group is led by Professor Yasuhiro Suzuki, the multiphase flow group by Professor Yoichi Ogata, and the interdisciplinary collaboration group by two professors.
